Nat Geo Wild To Air Supersized Fish Bowl, Adds Talk Show, Saturday Kids Block & More – TCA
Shocking no one, Nat Geo Wild confirmed during today’s TCA panel that it will be celebrating Super Bowl 50 on February 7 with a third edition of its annual Fish Bowltelevision event. Fish Bowl XXL will see the return of Goldie the goldfish, this time in a 50-gallon bowl, along with a host of other sea creatures including clown fish, puffer fish, seahorses, eels, sting rays, and a shark for good measure. The special, in keeping with the humor of previous installments from 2014 and 2015, will this time feature a soundtrack of songs by bands with fish-related names. Starting half an hour before the Super Bowl 50 kick off, Fish Bowl XXL airs Sunday, February 7 from 6 PM to 8 PM, with a repeat from 10PM to Midnight.
Nat Geo Wild also unveiled upcoming new programming for Winter/Spring 2016, starting with Pet Talk, billed as the first-ever prime time talk show for pet owners. Hosted by veterinarians Tina Olivieri and Courtney Campbell, and naturalist David Mizejewski, with field reporting by Andre Millan, son of The Dog Whisperer’s Cesar Millan, the weekly series will cover topics including health and nutrition, behavior and grooming, pet trends, and heartfelt animal stories. Episodes will be taped in front of a live studio audience, with viewers encouraged to Skype, tweet, text and email their own comments, questions, and stories. The show will also feature recurring guests, among them experts in animal behavior, biology, grooming, as well as pet food chefs, authors and even animal celebrities. Leepson Bounds Entertainment is producing for Nat Geo Wild. Pet Talk premieres Friday, February 19 at 10 PM eastern.
Next up, starting March 5 Nat Geo Wild is partnering with National Geographic Kids for “Nat Geo WildKids”, a Saturday morning block of educational programming focused on natural history, science, and wildlife. Among the slate of programs,Nature Boom Time will follow 2014 National Geographic Expedition Granted winner Charlie Engleman as he explores United States forests and climbs the tallest trees to study them from that perspective. Meanwhile, Nay geo Wild’s Wild to Inspire short-film competition winner Filipe DeAndrade will document his month-long African safari in a to-be-named project consisting of video diaries and short vignettes intended to inspire conservation efforts. The block will also include a collection of popular Nat Geo Kids online series, as well as selected segments from the most popular shows on Nat Geo Wild and National Geographic Channel. The block will air from 7 AM to 9 AM, EST on Saturdays.
Rounding out Nat Geo Wild’s upcoming programing: Animal Storm Squad will depict the rescue of animals during natural disasters – it premieres March 11 at 10 PM EST; Mission Critical, premiering Jan 31 at 9 PM EST, will see investigative photojournalists traveling the globe to reveal what needs to be done to save species from extinction; And finally, Nat Geo Wild is airing its second annual “Barkfest Weekend” featuring all dog-related content. The event is planned for April.
